UNSUNG
By
Michael Edwin Q

Seize this world with both hands
Breathe in its aroma deeply
Plead for each and every one who has gone before
Not just the famed and powerful
But the meek and oppressed
Whose passing goes unsung without celebration
Take up the shovel and place the soil down gently

They are the sum total of this world
Favored by few and sought out by none
Burden carried by battered hands and ailing hearts
Laid heavy on mortal form, enduring the sorrow of being
Till grace carries them home

Place the flowers down, the lily and the rose
Seasons leave behind their fragrance
Seek out and endow them where you find them
These undaunted masses
Those who repair and refurbish

They go on with upturned eyes
Hands upon their hearts
Unmentioned countrymen in our midst
A song unsung, a bell not rung
These sovereign of the earth
